Joe Kennedy & Chris Mason have a good thing on their hands with this tri-store front concept in the old Armondo's location in downtown Renton. The location seemed to work well for Armondo and hopefully it works that well for Joe and his staple; the Calico Cheesecake brand. The tri-store front reminds me of the starting McMenamin's brothers in the Portland area and it has worked well for them. I look forward to swinging by just to pick up a slice of yummy cheesecake, which I could also pick-up at Triftway. Good going guys.

Calico Cheesecakes originated in my home kitchen in the winter of 2003. As a chef in the Northwest, from Gig Harbor to the Pike Place Market, I had never come across a cheesecake quite like this one and I was also eager to create my own business.

The product was an immediate success within the local community and I started selling to several restaurants in the area.

With the help of long-time Sous Chef, and business partner, Chris Mason, in 2005 we leased a space in Renton, a small, growing city that I always admired.

People have often asked how we do it, I reply, "I didn't invent cheesecake, I just perfected it".
